Reflection- Lesson 2
The students responded nicely to lesson 2. There was a lot of content to be covered, and I ended up cutting out a few pieces, but they seemed to get the general goals of the lesson I was aiming for. Not all the students had their vocabulary done for the day, however we went over each word as a class and they all engaged by showing me their eyes and listening to what their classmates had to say. We also summarized what happened in the chapter read for homework. A handful of students gave thoughts as to what was happening and what they felt about it. I then had the students break up into pairs (randomly selecting) to read chapter 7. This chapter took longer than expected, so that mostly why I had to cut out a few things in my lesson. As I was circling around listening to the students read, I saw that the majority were keeping on task with reading and writing down new words to their vocabulary packet. One student talked about how the story "skipped around" referring to the flashbacks. It helped me segway into my brief time talking about flashbacks. They students were able to see an example of what a flashback was through the reading. Even though we weren't able to cover everything I'd planned on it still was a successful lesson. I'll have to readjust the rest of my lessons, but it gave me a good judgement as to what to expect while teaching.
