Reflection: Lesson 1
The class responded well to the first lesson. I was able to work off of my lesson plan and get to everything I wanted to accomplish. We first talked about setting. The students seemed to have picked up very quickly what a setting was, and the components behind it. They came up with good ideas from their own camp experiences, and contributed many of them in the large group. I decided against having the students come up to the board and place their sticky notes. I thought it would make them a little to rowdy. Instead, I asked for many volunteers to offer what they wrote. The students seemed to have a good time reminiscing about camp experiences. When we read through the first 5 chapters, it took longer than I expected. But, it seemed to work out time-wise (we were only slightly behind on time). The students seemed to engage well in class because when I'd ask questions quite a few hands would raise to answer. I could tell that it was getting pretty long because during the last chapter some students started to fidget. The section of the brainstorming web seemed to work well. Students understood how they were suppose to "answer" it because of our previous work during the beginning of class. The blog could've went a little more smoothly, however it went pretty well for it being the first time. Students got a little lost opening the blog, but once they were on it went well. They seemed to understand the question and answer it to the best of their ability. Overall, it went well and I think the students understood the content and the goals I had for them.
